When colour and firing have reached the desired point the paste is removed from the melting pot using gestures and movements that have been repeated millions of limes, as though in a sort of ritual. The long, heavy spoon is beaten rhythmically on the work surface, the glowing ball of fire is squeezed and evened out with the roller and, away from the heat, the colour is gradually restored to life. The blocks of glass are immediately laid on the extremely slow-moving conveyor belt of a special furnace. The annealing process begins, bringing the-material from, 500 degrees down to room temperature. Several hours of cooling are required to obtain a mosaic glass slab. In the mean time, the glass master will already have put a new colour in to the furnace: without taking a pause, the adventure begins all over again.
